Adventist Health White Memorial’s OB/GYN Residency Program blends academic excellence and clinical learning with compassionate, whole-person care. Our residents bond through the shared mission to bring health, healing and hope to our patients and community.

The OB/GYN Residency Program prepares residents to succeed in their professional goals — whether that’s general OB/GYN practice, academic leadership or sub-specialty fellowship training. We also embrace the fact that residents are real people, who need rest and quality interpersonal relationships, both personally and professionally.

Why Choose Our OB/GYN Residency?

OB/GYN residents are valuable members of our team. We emphasize interdisciplinary care that focuses on treating patients as whole people. Residents in the OB/GYN Residency Program benefit from:

  • Comprehensive, hands-on experience:At the heart of our program, residents and faculty are committed to excellence. We provide a comprehensive, hands-on experience with rotations in gynecologic surgery, reproductive endocrinology, female pelvic medicine and more. Residents practice surgical techniques and simulate labor and delivery in ourLyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center, which is available to residents 24/7. Our program averages 300 deliveries each month. Residents follow their own panel of patients and build strong patient-provider relationships throughout their four years in the program.
  • Diverse patient population:Our Program is immersed in a culturally diverse, medically underservedcommunity. This gives us purpose and meaning in our work and residents develop a baseline approach of cultural humility. This rich, diverse experience leads to graduates who are well-rounded, compassionate and competent. Residents work in the Boyle Heights community of East Los Angeles, as well as complete rotations in high economic areas for a diverse experience.
  • Participation in scholarly activity:Residents have opportunities to present at regional and national conferences as well as publish research in peer-reviewed journals. Each resident must present a research project during residency training, submitted in a format suitable for publication. Faculty members promote research participation and understand the importance of scholarly activity.
  • Collaboration and camaraderie:Our residents work hard — but we also have fun. In the OB/GYN residency, we foster a sense of camaraderie and warmth toward each other. Residents form strong friendships and bonds through a shared mission to serve the community in a spirit of humility. At Adventist Health White Memorial, we value work-life balance andwell-being. Residents have access to annual vacation time, our complimentary fitness center (accessible 24/7), counseling services, and institutional well-being events. We believe that physicians who care for themselves are even better at caring for their patients.
