requirements for weight loss surgery

What to Expect After Surgery

Following your procedure, your care team will monitor you closely after your surgery and support you with your new lifestyle and eating habits. We want to make sure that you have every opportunity to be successful in your weight-loss goals. You will have several follow-up visits with Dr. Hanna and your primary care physician.

Your first follow-up appointment will be scheduled seven to 10 days after your surgery. After that, we request you schedule appointments every six weeks during the first year and every three months during the second year. Then we'd like to have follow-up appointments with you on a semiannual or annual basis.

During these visits, your progress, including weight and BMI, are tracked and monitored by our office staff. Depending on your individual needs, you may need to follow up with specific specialists as well.

Types of evaluations

If you have the Lap-Band procedure, your first band adjustment will be scheduled two months after surgery. This may be performed at the hospital using fluoroscopy or in the office. Once you are no longer losing one or two pounds a week, or you have lost the restrictive feeling you once had with the band, you may schedule further adjustments which will take place either in the office or radiology department as determined by Dr. Hanna.

After surgery, you will be required to attend our monthly Bariatric Support Group Meeting led by our Bariatric Coordinator, Debbie Parker. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Dr. Hanna or Debbie at(707) 463-8011.
