Visiting a Family Member
At Adventist Health Ukiah Valley, we want to help our patients heal by seeing close friends and family members while they are staying with us in the medical center. A few policies on visiting help keep our patients safe and rested as they recover in the medical center.
- Ensure that your loved one is ready to receive visitors. If you are unsure, call the medical center beforehand and clear your visit with the staff at(707) 462-3111. It is best not to exhaust the patient. Visitors should be staggered with plenty of time to rest in between. When you arrive, check in with the front desk staff to alert the staff that you are there.
- Honor visitation hours and policies, especially in the ICU unit. Your loved one’s nurse can help guide you to what those are based on their condition.
- Wash your hands with soap and water before entering a patient room and use hand sanitizer. Sanitizing stations are throughout the medical center. This helps prevent the spread of germs. Many patients are immune compromised from being sick, having an injury or going through surgery. They need the most germ-free environment possible.
- If you are sick, please stay home.
- Please do not bring plants, flowers or latex balloons to the ICU unit. Plants and flowers can contain mold spores and can trigger allergies in patients on the unit. Latex balloons can also trigger common latex allergies.
- Take care of yourself. Do not sacrifice your health. You will be the most use to your loved one if you are healthy and well-rested. Be sure to drink lots of water before and after your visit, especially if you are spending a lot of time at the medical center with them.
If you are a close family member, and have the consent of the patient, please ask for information aboutcaringbridge.com. Caringbridge is a great online service where family members can update a patient’s progress online to be shared with trusted family members and friends.
