Jan 22, 2020
Dr. Chris Lau, orthopedic surgeon, talks about some of the injuries he treats and why his practice has expanded to the Windward side.
With Hawaii being such an active population, orthopedic injuries can be pretty common. Thankfully, Adventist Health Castle is expanding its orthopedic services to better serve the windward side. HI Now host Kanoe Gibson is talking with Dr. Christopher Lau, a new orthopedic surgeon at the hospital.
Dr. Lau was born and raised in Honolulu. He graduated from ‘Iolani High School, then attended the University of Southern California, receiving his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. He returned home in 2009 and obtained his medical degree from the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine in 2013. Following medical school, Dr. Lau completed his orthopedic surgery residency training with the University of Hawai’i in 2018.
Dr. Lau moved to Los Angeles for sub-specialty fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute, regarded as one of the nation’s most elite sports medicine fellowship programs. There he trained in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery to treat disorders of the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. While there, Dr. Lau treated high school, collegiate, and professional athletes (NBA, NFL, MLB, and MLS).
In 2019, Dr. Lau joined Orthopedic Associates of Hawaii. He specializes in sports medicine with advanced arthroscopy, trauma, and total joint arthroplasty. He continues to work closely with the University of Hawai’i medical school and orthopedic surgery residency program.
Dr. Lau loves to be active, and enjoys running, lifting, swimming, body surfing, and hiking. He previously competed in water polo, swimming, judo, and Brazilian jiu jitsu.
