The Treatment Process
How we treat your wounds
At Adventist Health Sonora, we take wound care seriously. From start to finish, we try to keep you informed of every aspect of your treatment.
Your first visit
Your first appointment will consist of an in-depth assessment by our wound care team, a review of your medical history, blood tests or additional tests as needed, and recommendations for your treatment plan. Please bring your medical records, insurance card, a list of all medications you are taking, and a list of any allergies you may have. Expect to spend several hours at the Center.
Your treatment
When your test results are in, we'll tailor a treatment program based upon the type of wound you have and the underlying problems causing your wound. This program will include regular visits to the Center for Wound Care to provide treatment, evaluate progress and make any changes that might be needed.
You may be prescribed various forms of treatment such as:
- Infectious disease management
- Physical therapy
- Vascular and/or laboratory evaluation
- Nutritional management
- Pain management
- Diabetic education
- Nuclear medicine
- Radiology
- Debridement (deep cleaning of the wound)
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
In addition, you or your caregiver will be given detailed instructions for in-home care, dressing (bandage) changes and protecting the wound from further injury.
Your treatment team
The Center for Wound Care works with your primary care doctor (or specialist) to deliver the best treatment possible. We will keep your physician updated on your progress and consult with him or her as needed.
Your insurance
Medicare and many other health plans cover treatment at the Center for Wound Care. Your coverage depends upon your specific plan. Be sure to bring your insurance card with you when you visit the Center for Wound Care.
Your part in the healing process
You have an important part to play in healing successfully. Keeping your appointments, following directions for at-home care and making suggested lifestyle changes will all contribute enormously to your healing process.
