Blown Away by Kindness
Aug 19, 2022
When the son of Portland Pickles baseball team co-owner Alan Miller had a choking incident, he was taken to the Adventist Health Portland ER. The ER team discovered a piece of food lodged in the boy’s esophagus.
“I was blown away by the kindness and compassion of every person we came in contact with,” Miller says. “It was a very scary situation that they made as comfortable and reassuring as possible.”
Miller reports that the doctor who removed the food item discovered an existing condition that made choking easier. Now the family can take steps to reduce this added choking risk.
The ER team arranged for the boy to be transferred to their OHSU Health partner Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, where he made a full recovery.
Adventist Health Portland is a proud sponsor of the Portland Pickles. “From our family and the entire Pickles organization, we are incredibly grateful for your amazing team,” Miller says. “We are proud to be your partners and look forward to supporting your initiatives for years to come.”
