- Valve disease:Problems in the valves that move blood through your heart
- Women’s heart health:Specialized diagnosis, treatment and education to meet women’s unique heart needs
Heart disease symptoms
You might not have symptoms of a heart condition in the early stages. These symptoms vary based on the type and severity of the condition.
Call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately if you have symptoms of a heart attack, including:
- Chest pain, pressure or tightness in the center or left side of your chest
- Pain and discomfort that wrap around your upper body (to your neck, jaw, shoulder, back or arm)
- Unexplained shortness of breath
- Cold sweat, nausea, dizziness or indigestion, especially in combination with the symptoms above
Symptoms of other heart conditions include:
- Heart palpitations (a feeling of skipped heartbeats, fluttering or "flip-flops")
- Pounding in your chest
- Swelling of your ankles, feet or abdomen
- Rapid weight gain
See your doctor if you have symptoms that linger or worsen, or if you have other significant changes in your body. Diagnosing heart problems as soon as possible helps us treat you more effectively.
Heart disease diagnosis
Your cardiologist (heart doctor) will perform one or more tests to make acardiac diagnosis. We often use minimally invasive diagnostic methods.
We explain what your diagnosis means for you, along with your treatment options. You may need more than one type of treatment. For example, you may need surgery to treat the condition and medication to manage it over time.
Comprehensive treatment options
After your diagnosis, we create your customized treatment plan, which may include:
- General cardiology
- Cardiac emergency care
- Electrophysiology
- Interventional cardiology
- Cardiac surgery
- Cardiac rehabilitation
