Care for every trimester

Whether you’re pregnant with your first or your fourteenth, this is a special time for you and your family. Our providers believe in women — in your strength and your knowledge of yourself. They also offer expertise to help you have a healthy, happy pregnancy.

Our prenatal program supports you and your baby as you grow together toward birth. Our team wants to understand what you care about most during your pregnancy and what you want during your birth experience.

The first trimester (weeks 1 to 12)

For many moms, the first step is to confirm your pregnancy and estimate your due date. This is also a chance to meet yourOB/GYN or certified nurse-midwifeif you haven’t been here already.

Some things to expect during the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy include:

  • Your initial prenatal visit, with screenings and a chance to discuss your questions and concerns each month.
  • Monthly visits through this trimester.
  • An initial ultrasound to confirm your due date and see how your baby is doing.
  • Early symptoms like morning sickness, so let us know if you’re more than a little sick to your stomach.

The second trimester (weeks 13 to 27)

This part of pregnancy is a great time to begin exploring what matters to you most about your birth. During your regularly visits — typically monthly during this stage — you can discuss your concerns with your doctor. Other things common during the second trimester include:

  • An ultrasound to check on your baby’s growth — and you may be able to find out baby’s gender, if you wish.
  • Genetic screenings for your baby.
  • Glucose screening to check for gestational diabetes.

This trimester is a great time to also review yourhealth insurance benefitsfor your delivery and get signed up forbirthing, breastfeeding and baby care classes.

The third trimester (weeks 28 to 40)

As you get closer to your due date, your regular visits will increase in frequency. In addition to seeing your provider, there are a lot of important things to do as you wait for your little one’s arrival:

  • Fill out your hospital registration paperwork.
  • Take yourbirth, breastfeeding and baby care classes.
  • Talk with your doctor or nurse-midwife about any pain you’re having with your growing pregnancy. Ourspecialty rehabteam can help!
  • Pack your hospital bag, even if it’s still early — that way you have time to buy things you still need.
  • Write out your birth plan and share it with your provider. Pack a copy in your hospital bag too — ourFamily Birth Placeteam takes your desires very seriously and wants to help you have the birth you desire.
  • When baby signals you've moved pastearly laborinto active labor, head to the Family Birth Place andget checked in.
