The mission of the stroke program at Adventist Health Portland is to reduce stroke-related death and disability in east Portland and our broader community. We do this by:
- Providing stroke-expert emergency care for a rapid response that ensures the best possible outcome.
- Partnering with OHSU fortelestroke care,telemedicineandvirtual ICU collaboration.
- Working as a stroke team, which includes doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, dietitians, chaplains and other specialized staff members.
- Customizing care for each patient while followingAmerican Stroke Associationguidelines.
- Connecting patients with follow-up care, including speech, occupational and physical therapy and home health rehabilitation when needed.
Stroke prevention and education
Helping people avoid stroke is a top priority. Education about risks and screenings helps our patients and community avoid strokes. We also work with people with specific risks to make lifestyle changes and treatments to lower their chance of a stroke. One example isthe WATCHMAN devicefor patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AFib), a procedure offered by ourNorthwest Regional Heart & Vascular.
