Student Healthcare Leaders (SHL) gives high school students an introduction to the abundant and diverse career opportunities available in health care. This after-school program uses interactive explorations and panel discussions to help young people explore health care, become enlightened about what it includes and engage with health care professionals.
Program details
This program is free for the selected participants. The program takes place at Adventist Health Portland's hospital in southeast Portland. Evening meals are provided during class.

A medical center is like a little city. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to explore behind the scenes of what makes the health care world work. Learn what it takes to be a medical leader — as a doctor, nurse, administrator, technician or support person. Most health care leaders make their decision to be in the medical field while still in high school, so get an early start on your future in health care.
Engage
It's never too early to establish a network of mentors and connections. This unique program lets you:
- Participate in hands-on experiences in a hospital.
- Meet and talk with some of the leading medical professionals in Portland.
- Have your questions answered by experts from many diverse parts of health care.
