DAISY Award:Jesliel Freeman
Department:3 West
Nominated by:Patient, Clarissa Hughes
From Patient:“I came to the ER filled with the fear of the unknown. And as I sat and waited my fear grew increasingly. Them my name was called for my CT scan and I was filled with a little hope of finding some answers. I was told I would go back to the waiting room when I was finished with my scan. So, I laid down, followed their breathing instructions, and finished my scan, only I didn’t go back to a waiting room. I was admitted. I initially came in for GI issues so when I was told I needed a blood transfusion I was shocked and scared. I wasn’t even sure I knew exactly what that meant, but if I didn’t have it, I could die. Dying wasn’t part of my plan, but none the less I was freaked out of my mind. And then I met Jez. She was so sweet, kind, and she made me laugh and forget that I was scared for a moment. Jez is an exceptional nurse. She knows her stuff and she’s very thorough. She has a way of explaining everything to you that makes sense. She gave me a sense of peace about my transfusion to where I was no longer fearful. I was optimistic now and ready to get it done. I’m so grateful for Jez, she was such a delight to be around, always happy to see you. Even though she wears a mask you can see her huge smile underneath by the look in her eyes. She was such a joy to have around. THANK YOU!”
DAISY Nurse Leader:Jeannie Chung
Department:ICU
Nomination by:Patrick and Amdeep
From Co-Workers:“What truly sets Jeannie apart from the rest of the nurse leaders we've worked with is that Jeannie remains calm in high pressure situations. During codes or during chaotic periods where we're moving patients in and out, she's the first one in the room to help. She keeps us calm and organized. We feel more confident accepting assignments when we know we have Jeannie supporting us. Jeannie is a great team member/leader that does well advocating for her patients. Even when she is charge, she still does well advocating during rounds and encouraging nurses to speak to her about patient conditions/pathos. In summary, Jeannie is an outstanding candidate for the Daisy Award for exemplifying compassionate care for both patients and staff members. She makes us feel heard and supported. We support this nomination because we truly believe she possesses the qualities and values the Daisy Award represents. Jeannie is an inspiration to us all. We all aim to be like her one day.”
