February Howard Hero- Leigh Austin

We’re very excited to announce our next Howard Hero, Leigh Austin. Leigh is one of our front lobby volunteers at Adventist Health Howard Memorial and has been with us for three years now, working one of the busiest days in our lobby, helping patients with registration and welcoming those visiting.

Leigh was nominated for our value of “Be Welcoming”. This value means she recognizes all people are created equal and embraces them with hospitality as she would a cherished friend.

Leigh in her nominations was mentioned many times for her great work in times of busy, stressful situations, her friendly and positive outlook, and someone who helps in so many ways at our hospital. She is someone our staff and visitors know as a warm smile and welcoming presence in our lobby.

One person who nominated Leigh mirrored these sentiments in their nomination saying, “I love it when Leigh is here! She has such a positive and uplifting attitude, no matter how busy or stressful it is at the front desk. She always manages to keep an even tone. Leigh volunteers every Tuesday and has helped us out in a pinch when it was needed. She is reliable, friendly, positive and all those wonderful traits that help patients when they come in the doors of Adventist Health Howard Memorial.”

Leigh not only is kind, but she’s also a big help to those around her. “I want to nominate Leigh Austin for the Howard Hero Award. On top of helping keep order in outpatient registration she is the first to offer someone a bottle of water, newspaper, magazine, grab a wheelchair or push someone down the hall to lab services or imaging.”

“There are times when the lobby is full of patients waiting to register and Leigh is on top of it all, always keeping things in order and everyone happy. Not only is Leigh kind, but she is also fun to work with. She is a delight and a great asset to the hospital and our volunteers,” the nomination went on to say.

We’re so proud to have Leigh on our team assisting in our hospital as a volunteer and could not be more elated to honor her with the prestigious award of this month’s Howard Hero.

Thank you, Leigh, for all you do for our team and patients each day you spend with us. You truly are a Howard Hero in every way.
