Not all heart attacks come on as sudden and intense chest pain — especially for women, who are more likely to have atypical symptoms such as shortness of breath and a feeling of indigestion. Look for these six sometimes subtle signs of a heart attack. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Chest pain

A feeling of pressure, fullness or squeezing is the most common heart attack symptom in both men and women. However, not everyone experiences chest pain.

Upper body discomfort

You might have pain in your arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach — but it might be hard to pinpoint the location.

Excessive fatigue

Women are more likely than men to have unusual fatigue in the weeks or months leading up to a heart attack.

Shortness of breath

Are you finding it hard to breathe? Unexplained shortness of breath, especially while lying down, can point to a heart attack.

Fainting

Women are more likely to feel weak, dizzy, shaky, clammy or lightheaded during a heart attack. Some may even faint.

Digestive issues

In addition to stomach pain, you may experience nausea, indigestion, vomiting or a feeling of fullness.
