Acute Physical Rehabilitation
Offering 7 day a week therapy and the only hospital-based rehabilitation for emergency care if needed
When a health emergency strikes and you or a loved one needs rehabilitation, you want to know that your care will be provided by the most advanced therapists in their field and will give you the best possible recovery from your condition.
Take a virtual tour of our facility
For over 30 years, Adventist Health Lodi Memorial’s Acute Physical Rehabilitation (APR) program, located within the hospital, has given thousands of patients the opportunity to recover from a major illness or injury and return home with their loved ones.
Acute rehabilitation differs from the traditional skilled nursing facility by offering a special level of rehabilitative care designed for patients who need an intensive, coordinated approach to overcome their new challenges. In the APR environment, patients spend a majority of the day out of bed participating in therapy or social activities. You will receive a minimum of three hours of therapy a day, seven days per week. The length of your stay varies based on needs and progress.
Common conditions treated at our location include:
- Strokes
- Neurologic disorders
- Multiple trauma
- Spinal cord injuries
- Brain injuries
- Other complex conditions
The impact of the APR on our patients’ recovery can be easily measured. Our program accredited by The Joint Commission. We also have ranked in the top 5 percent nationally compared to other rehabilitation facilities, according to the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation, an organization that maintains the world’s largest database for medical rehabilitation outcomes.
As the longest running acute rehabilitation facility in San Joaquin County, we strive to exceed expectations through quality care, innovative rehabilitation techniques and the latest technology in our field.

The admission process
All APR patients must obtain a referral before being admitted for inpatient rehabilitation. Referrals are typically made by hospital case managers. Patients may also be evaluated for admission with a referral from physicians, therapists, or family members and friends.
Once contacted, the admissions team member will assess the potential client and review the specifics with our admitting physician. If appropriate, the physician will recommend admission to APR for inpatient therapy. The case manager will work with the patient’s insurance for approval.
To qualify for admission the patient must:
- Be diagnosed by a physician with a condition or deficit requiring an acute rehabilitation program
- Be medically stable
- Require at least two or more therapies (physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech therapy)
- Be able to tolerate a minimum of three hours of therapy per day
- Have a discharge plan in place
Adventist Health Lodi Memorial APR accepts most medical insurances. Our admission coordinators stand ready to work with you.
