Adventist Health Castle’s occupational therapists are valuable members of your healthcare team. They have graduated from an accredited university in occupational therapy and pass a national certification examination. We hire only the most qualified, dynamic therapists to provide services to our patients. Adventist Health Castle’s Rehabilitation Services provides high quality physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy services in both our Kailua and Kāne‘ohe facilities. Castle Rehabilitation Services treats individuals with medical or health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform activities in their everyday lives. Patients receive one-on-one, evidence-based evaluation and treatment by highly skilled therapists. We examine each client and develop an ndividualized plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, we work to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.

Castle Rehabilitation Services’ therapists collaborate with your physician so that you achieve the highest level of function. Our services stress preventive education, the highest quality care available, and a holistic approach to physical rehabilitation with an emphasis on total well-being. Adventist Health Castles’ therapists provide a full continuum of care from acute rehabilitation services to home health rehabilitation services to outpatient rehabilitation services. Our Wellness Center offers continued support for positive lifestyle changes in the areas of fitness, nutrition, stress-management, and tobacco treatment.

Whether you need just one of our therapy services or all of them, we offer the benefit of comprehensive physical rehabilitation services in one convenient location. Our services and programs are designed to meet your needs, and together with our other service lines, we are able to bring you seamless delivery of care

Increasing independence through occupational therapy

Occupational therapy is skilled intervention that helps you be more independence in your daily activities like self-care, leisure and work activities. Occupational therapy is about helping you do the day-to-day tasks that occupy your time, sustain you and enable you to contribute to the wider community.

When people have strokes, sustain injuries, or have chronic mental or physical health problems, occupational therapists help them engage in occupations or everyday activities that are personally meaningful, socially satisfying, and culturally relevant to help restore their function and independence.

Interventions used by occupational therapists may include working on:

  • Rehabilitation of cognitive deficits (memory, attention, complex reasoning)
  • Motor function and strength
  • Gross motor and fine motor skills
  • Sensory function (vision, visual perceptual functioning, perception of touch)

Another important area where your occupational therapist can help is helping you change your environment to maximize your abilities. Your therapist will also see if specialized tools and equipment could help you in your daily activities.

Occupational therapy at Adventist Health Castle includes:

  • Activities of daily living (ADLs) training
  • Functional transfer training (such as between toilet, shower and tub)
  • Bathroom durable medical equipment assessment and training
  • Upper extremity range of motion and strengthening
  • Upper extremity splint fabrication
  • Adaptive device instruction
  • Cognitive retraining
  • Visual assessment
  • Upper extremity function
  • Fine motor coordination
  • Caregiver training
  • Neuromuscular re-education
