Nuclear Medicine

Viewing the body’s functions

Adventist Health Castle’s GE-SPECT/CT allows us to perform a full range of nuclear medicine studies as well as advanced fusion imaging. A small amount of radioactive material is administered to the patient, usually through an IV, and works like a dye. The camera detects this dye and forms detailed images. These images can be used to detect disease in many parts of your body, like your heart, bones, biliary tract, thyroid and lungs.

Our nuclear medicine technologists are board certified with theNuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, which is the premier certification board for this specialty. We value having technologists who have the best training and experience.

One of our most common exams is the stress/rest myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) scan. This is a type of stress test that uses PET or SPECT imaging of your heart before and after exercise to determine the effect of physical stress on blood flow through your coronary arteries and heart muscle. The 3D images produced by this study are called perfusion images because they show which areas of the heart muscle are perfused, or supplied, with blood.
