CMS Five-Stars

Adventist Health Castle was recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) with a five-star rating for the second year in a row, making us the only hospital in Hawai’i to achieve this distinction in 2024. This recognition places Adventist Health Castle among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide. The CMS 5-star rating is the highest possible rating awarded through the CMS Overall Star Ratings Program. It evaluates performance across five quality areas: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timeliness and effectiveness of care. Our continued excellence in these areas highlight our role as a leader in healthcare both in Hawai’i and nationwide. Only 381 hospitals across the United States received a CMS 5-star rating this year, 102 fewer than last year. Much of this rating comes from patient experience and being reviewed against hospitals much larger than ours, making it difficult to achieve.

Bronze standard – Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation

The American College of Emergency Physicians awarded Adventist Health Castle the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) for our protocol-driven approach to providing geriatric patients with superior, tailored care.

The GEDA accreditation acknowledges that at Adventist Health Castle, we provide standardized approaches to care that address common geriatric issues, ensure optimal transitions of care from the emergency department to other settings and work to achieve geriatric-focused quality improvements.
