COPE Health Scholar Programs
A hands-on clinical and administrative experience opportunity for pre-healthcare professionals
The Health Scholars Programs at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley and Frank Howard Memorial Hospital gives pre-healthcare professionals unparalleled access to direct patient care and hospital administrative areas. Program participants become valuable members of the care team working alongside nurses, physicians and allied health professionals in clinical and administrative settings. These programs give high school students, college students, and career changers the opportunity to learn a patient-centered approach to care, advance their professional school candidacy, build a foundation for their careers, and begin lifelong relationships through the COPE Connect alumni network.
Junior Health Scholars Program (ages 16-17)
The Junior Health Scholar program provides high school students between the ages 16 and 17 years old who are interested in health care with a unique, firsthand educational experience within the health system and hospital setting, while also earning a completion certificate from Keck Graduate Institute. Through continuous recruitment, screening, education, interactive training and professional development, Junior Health Scholars are able to shift independently in the health care setting. Junior Health Scholars will also have opportunities to be paired with Health Scholars in various clinical and administrative departments to better understand care delivery and the components of the care team. The experience through the Junior Health Scholar Program helps foster long-term success in school, as program participants progress through their education and prepare for careers in health care.
