Engaging your kids during the winter months

With winter in full swing, it’s easy to get into the routine of TV watching and little physical activity. With our busy schedules, creativity and learning can get pushed to the side! This winter themed activity works on so many different skills such as fine motor, gross motor, motor planning, and speech and communication!

Materials you need:

• Cardboard boxes
• White wrapping paper
• Velcro
• Cut-out eyes, hats, carrot nose, arms, and buttons
• Tape

Directions:

• Wrap the various sized boxes in white paper and place the Velcro in place where the Snowman’s buttons, arms, eyes, nose, and hat would go.
• Get the kids involved by drawing and coloring each item the way that they envision their snowman! Cut them out. To make the pieces extra sturdy, you can laminate them!
• Lay the boxes and pieces out for the kids to grab and watch their Snowman come to life!

Different ways to use the snowman:

• Time the kids to see how quickly they can stack and dress the snowman
• Hide the pieces and have a scavenger hunt around the house!
• Make and cut out different types of hats or eyes to give the snowman a different look!
