Winter staycation: Our favorite cold-weather activities
Dec 6, 2020
Even if you can't travel this holiday season, it doesn't mean you can't have a winter staycation at home! When the weather outside is frightful, lean into cold-weather activities that really are rather delightful! We’ve outlined seven wintery activities to transform the season into a wonderful staycation.
- Build a fort:Let’s be honest, you’re never too old for a fort. Pull out all the stops and build the fort you always dreamed about when you were a kid. Turn it into a movie night with popcorn and hot cocoa with marshmallows.
- Holiday lights:If it’s too cold to walk around the neighborhood admiring holiday lights, pack everyone into the car to cover more ground!
- Movies:Create an at-home movie theater experience with a sheet and a projector. Christmas movie marathon, anyone? Don't forget the popcorn!
- Craft:A hand-crafted gift from the heart can mean a lot. Build winter wreaths for your neighbors, make an art project with the kids or go through old pictures to make that scrapbook you’ve been meaning to get to for years!
- Play in the snow:How about sledding at the park? Even if you’re just building a snowman in the front yard, get out there! Express your artistic side by filling up a spray bottle with colored water and write messages or draw pictures in the snow. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean it’s too cold to play.
- Make ice cream with snow:This may sound crazy, but there are a lot of great recipes out there to help turn snow into a tasty treat! Start by collecting snow from an undisturbed part of the yard and make sure the snow is deep enough. No snow where you live? Go out for ice cream instead!
- Take a hike:There’s something calming about walking in the snow. Bundle up, buy or borrow some snowshoes (if you need to) and discover your own winter wonderland.
The end of warm weather doesn’t mean the end of all activity! What do you and your family or friends do to keep busy during the winter months?
