Is weight-loss surgery right for you?

Bariatric weight-loss surgery is a big step, but one that leads to an amazing chance to live a healthy life.

A bariatric procedure can help if:

  • You’re 100 pounds or more over your suggested healthy body weight.
  • If your body-mass index (BMI) is 40+.
  • If you have tried a variety of weight-loss programs previously with little long-term success.
  • If you feel the need to improve your health by losing weight.

Which bariatric procedure is right for you?

You’re unique. You deserve the procedure that will fit your specific needs. Our local weight-management experts can carefully walk you through a variety of options.

Gastric sleeve surgery

Up to 80% of the stomach is surgically removed, drastically reducing the amount of food the stomach can hold (and, therefore, hunger). It also reduces the sugars absorbed into the blood, an important consideration for people with type-2 diabetes.

Gastric bypass surgery

If your body-mass index is 45+, you and your doctor might consider gastric bypass (also called Roux-en-Y bypass). With this procedure, the stomach is bypassed entirely, replaced by a small pouch.

Safe, expert bariatric procedures with proven results

The Adventist Health Bakersfield weight-management program has earned a level 1A certification by the American College of Surgeons.
