Spine Services

The spine program at Brain/Spine Institute at Adventist Health is designed to offer a variety of treatment options to patients suffering from back or neck pain. We recognize that spine problems may be a multi-faceted challenge and have designed our practice to help patients meet these different challenges by offering the resources and support they need to improve their condition.

Although spinal surgery has shown to be an effective tool for a lot of spinal problems, it is important for patients to remember that surgery is only one treatment option of the many offered at the Institute.

Conservative medical care, such as medication and therapies, are usually initiated first. If conservative therapies do not provide marked relief, more diagnostic tests are ordered to establish a definitive diagnosis. Once a clear diagnosis is confirmed, your physician will help you decide if surgery is right for you.

The physicians and staff at Adventist Health Bakersfield have collaborated with several departments including surgery, nursing, and rehabilitation to develop a comprehensive spine program. This includes education manuals to guide you through every aspect of your procedure, from a pre-surgery checklist and what to expect at the hospital to preparing your home for recovery and specific exercises that will help you achieve your best results. You will know what to expect and what to do every step of the way.

For surgical patients, a dedicated nurse spine coordinator will assist you throughout your entire hospital stay. In addition, there is a pre-operative spine video and a spine education booklet that will help you learn more about your role in the surgery process.
