Mobile Health Program
After successfully partnering with various community organizations to provide medical screenings and outreach, the team at Adventist Health realized in 2019 that it needed a well-equipped platform to deliver services in a safe and effective manner, even in the far-reaches of the county.
With strong roots in Kern, Chevron also wanted to find a way to “power” rural healthcare access – making them the perfect partner in this endeavor. Chevron’s $200,000 contribution enabled Adventist Health to purchase and furnish the mobile unit.
“Chevron is honored to partner with Adventist Health to expand access to health services for underserved populations in Kern County,” said Patty Canessa, Public Affairs Manager of Chevron’s San Joaquin Valley Business Unit. “We are enthusiastic to see the mobile unit contribute to the improvement of health and wellbeing in our communities.”
The fully equipped mobile clinic was delivered to the team in Bakersfield shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in 2020. So, the team pivoted, and the new mobile’s first assignment was to help administer vaccines to parts of the community that had little or no vaccine access. Through partnerships with the McFarland Unified School District, Bakersfield Sikh Women’s Association and the MLK Community Initiative, Adventist Health was able to administer vaccines throughout the county with a keen eye on equity.
“COVID-19 brought to light the importance of well-being and access to services,” said Daniel Wolcott, president of Adventist Health Kern County Care Delivery. “Our community deserves quality, compassionate care – no matter where they live in Kern County.”
The clinic relaunched in early 2022 as a platform to provide high-quality primary care services and general health outreach in rural communities.
Children’s Mobile Immunization Program (CMIP)
We successfully partnered with First 5 Kern to provide FREE immunizations to children ages 0-5 regardless of health insurance as well as children 6-18 who are either medically uninsured, insured through Medi-Cal or are Native American. The team at Adventist Health realized in 1996 that it needed a well-equipped platform to deliver services in a safe and effective manner, even in the far-reaches of the county. Every year our successful partnership with First 5 Kern, provides 16,500 vaccinations to local children under the age of 18 as part of our commitment to community health. Adventist Health is the only healthcare system in Kern County that offers a children’s mobile immunization clinic. We also offer the Hemo-globin test FREE of charge for children, expecting/postpartum mothers, regardless of health insurance.
